Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and the Tennessee Volunteers will be matching up in college basketball action on Friday from Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Cajuns come into this season following a nice 27-7 mark last year with a 16-2 record in Sun Belt play. Louisiana lost in the semis of the conference tournament to Texas-Arlington, then dropped in the first round of the NIT to LSU.

Louisiana comes in here with a solid first win under their collective belts, bagging a 121-80 victory over the Virgin Islands Buccaneers on Tuesday. In that one, Jakeenan Gant and Malik Marquetti led the way for the Cajuns with 19 points apiece.

Tennessee managed to go 26-9 on the year last season, with a 13-5 mark in SEC play. The Volunteers lost to Kentucky in the conference championship, and were upset in the NCAA Tournament in the second round by Loyola-Chicago.

Tennessee started out their basketball season with a win on Tuesday as well, posting an 86-41 beatdown over Lenoir-Rhyne. Tops in scoring for the Vols in that one was Jordan Bone with 18 points and six rebounds, and Kyle Alexander added 16 points.

The Cajuns are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five non-conference games. Louisiana is 1-4 ATS in their last five overall and 0-6 ATS in their last six versus the SEC.

Meanwhile, the Vols are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 Friday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five following a straight-up win. The under is 7-2 in Tennessee’s last nine overall and 3-1-1 in their last five Friday games.

This really should be an interesting matchup, as both these teams were strong in their respective conferences last season and are trying to shake off disappointing endings to their tournaments.

Tennessee is on another level ahead of the Cajuns, but Louisiana does have some solid scorers on their roster. I’m going to go with the Cajuns here.
