The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Tennessee Volunteers meet in SEC college basketball action from the Thompson-Boling Arena on Wednesday night.

The South Carolina Gamecocks will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games after a 77-65 win over Arkansas in their last outing. A.J. Lawson led the Gamecocks with 24 points on 8 of 14 shooting with 4 threes and 7 rebounds. Keyshawn Bryant added 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting with a pair of steals while Chris Silva added 16 points and a team-high 8 rebounds with 3 blocks to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for South Carolina in the winning effort. Silva leads South Carolina with 13.7 points and 7 rebounds per game while A.J. Lawson leads the Gamecocks in assists with 2.6 assists per game this season. As a team, South Carolina is averaging 74.1 points per game on 43.3% shooting from the field, 33.8% from behind the 3-point line and 69.5% from the foul line this season.

The Tennessee Volunteers will look to build on their current 19-game winning streak after a 73-61 win over Florida in their last outing. Grant Williams led the Vols with 16 points on 7 of 11 shooting with 6 rebounds and 3 assists while Admiral Schofield added 14 points with 6 rebounds of his own. Jordan Bowden added 13 points and Jordan Bone chipped in 10 points with a team-high 5 assists to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for Tennessee in the win. Williams leads the Volunteers with an average of 19.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while Bone leads Tennessee in assists with 6.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Tennessee is 7th in the country in scoring with 85.4 points per game on 51.6% shooting from the field, the 2nd-best field goal percentage in D-I, in addition to a 36.4% mark from 3-point range and 76.3% from the foul line this season.

South Carolina is 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 conference games and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 road games against a team with a winning home record while the over is 9-3 in their last 12 games overall. Tennessee is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record. The favorite is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

Getting this many points with South Carolina is tempting given how the Gamecocks have turned things around since conference play started. However, while the line is thick, South Carolina’s other two road games against the top-3 in the SEC ended with a 28-point loss to Kentucky and a 22-point loss to LSU. Tennessee is just knocking teams off left and right and while I think South Carolina keeps it respectable early, I just see the Vols being too much as Tennessee pulls away, covering the spread in the process.
