Texas Southern Tigers -14 O/U: 151.5
The Southern Jaguars and the Texas Southern Tigers will match up in college basketball’s SWAC Tournament on Tuesday.
Southern comes in here with a 7-24 record overall. The Jaguars are 3-2 in the last five games, falling to Alabama State and Prairie View A&M with wins over Alabama A&M, Alcorn State and Texas Southern.
In the loss to the Tigers, Southern’s Richard Lee put up 30 points with two rebounds and two assists to lead the team. The only other Jaguars player in double-figures there was Osa Wilson on 12 points with 12 rebounds.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they’re 19-12 this year. Texas Southern had a nice 11-game winning streak going as they came into Saturday’s game, but were dispatched by Southern 87-77.
In that loss, Texas Southern’s top performer was Trayvon Reed with 24 points and eight rebounds. Jeremy Combs put up 14 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Tigers in that one as well.
The Jaguars are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 2-12 ATS in their last 14 after an ATS win. Southern is 0-4 ATS in their last four after a straight-up win and the under is 6-1 in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five Tuesday games. Texas Southern is 1-5 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss and the over is 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games.
As with the other top-end matchup in the SWAC Tournament Tuesday, these teams just played each other. In that one, Southern took an 87-77 road victory and got some revenge after falling at home in early January 77-67.
The Jaguars are going to need to pour in the points if they’re going to hang here, and that might be a bit much to ask since they failed to top 61 points over a six-game stretch heading into Saturday’s matchup. I’m not in love with the pick, but I’m taking the Tigers on the cover here.
