Friday college basketball action gives us the Texas Longhorns battling the Providence Friars.
The Providence Friars routed visiting Albany 73-43 Tuesday as a 16 point favorite to improve to 9-3. Providence led by only three at the halfway point before a dominating 50-23 second half run behind a 42.1%-30% shooting edge and a 19-7 advantage at the line.
Alpha Diallo topped the Friars attack, leading all scorers with 20 points and ten rebounds and three steals on 6-12 from the field and 7-8 at the stripe. Maliek White gave Providence 16 points, three yanks and four helpers on 4-8 accuracy and 5-6 at the line while Makai Ashton-Langford added seven points, three pulls and five assists.
The Texas Longhorns have rebounded from a three game skid with consecutive victories following a 98-60 rout of Grand Canyon as a ten point favorite. Texas raced to a 56-30 lead at the half and were never challenged behind a 58.7%-36.1% edge in marksmanship and a 16-30 performance from beyond the arc.
The twosome of Elijah Mitrou-Long and Jase Febres led the Longhorns offense explosion with 16 points apiece and nine rebounds on 12-21 shooting. Texas received 15 points and five assists from Kerwin Roach II on 6-8 marksmanship followed by Courtney Ramey and Dylan Osetkowski.
Providence Friars are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and Providence Friars are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and Providence Friars are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big 12. Texas Longhorns are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 vs. Big East and Texas Longhorns are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games.
I would give the Longhorns the edge here but Providence has enough talent to make Texas squirm…
