Toledo Rockets -10 -- Over/Under: 153.5
The Central Michigan Chippewas and the Toledo Rockets meet in college basketball MAC-tion from the Savage Arena on Saturday night.
The Central Michigan Chippewas could use a win after dropping back-to-back games and splitting their last 6 outings after a 70-67 loss to Akron in their last outing. Larry Austin Jr. led the Chippewas with 19 points on 7 of 16 shooting while Robert Montgomery and Shawn Roundtree each added 11 points with Montgomery adding a team-high 10 rebounds for the double-double while Roundtree dished out a team-high 7 assists as well in the losing effort. Dallas Morgan added 3 threes as part of his 10-point night to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for Central Michigan in the losing effort. Austin Jr. leads Central Michigan with an average of 17.6 points and 5.6 assists per game while Kevin McKay leads the Chippewas in rebounding with 7.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Central Michigan is averaging 85.3 points per game on 46.9% shooting from the field, 35.9% from behind the 3-point line and 64.9% from the foul line this season.
The Toledo Rockets will look to rebound after having their 3-game winning streak snapped after an 87-85 overtime loss to Kent State in their last outing. Luke Knapke led the Rockets with 22 points on 9 of 18 shooting with a pair of threes while Jaelan Sanford added 17 points on 7 of 15 shooting with 3 threes and Nate Navigato chipped in 16 points on 7 of 10 shooting with a pair of threes. Marreon Jackson added 15 points along with team-highs of 7 assists and 4 steals to round out the scoring in double figures for Toledo in the loss while Willie Jackson added 9 points with a team-high 13 rebounds and 5 assists as well in the defeat. Sanford leads Toledo in scoring with 16.7 points per game while Jackson leads the Rockets in assists with 4.8 assists per game and Jackson leads Toledo in rebounding with 10 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Toledo is averaging 80.9 points per game on 46.1% shooting from the field, 38.8% from behind the arc and 78.8% from the foul line, the 4th-best free throw percentage in the country this season.
Central Michigan is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the over is 26-10-2 in their last 38 games overall. Toledo is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 conference games. Central Michigan is 14-6-1 ATS in the last 21 meetings between these two teams.
Central Michigan has been up and down as of late including dropping back-to-back games, but even against Toledo, the Chippewas haven’t been playing that bad to be a double-digit underdog here. Toledo has won back-to-back conference games by double figures, but Central Michigan has covered all three of their conference road games this year, winning two of them outright and losing by 3 last time out to Akron. The Chippewas have also had a lot of success between these two teams over the years. I’ll take a shot with Central Michigan and the points as it just feels wrong leaving this many points on the table with one of the best offensive teams in the country.
