The Cleveland State Vikings and the Toledo Rockets meet in college basketball action from Savage Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Cleveland State Vikings come into this one looking to snap a 4-game losing skid after talling to 2-6 with an 83-73 loss to DePaul in their last outing. Jaalam Hill and Tyree Appleby tied for the team-high with 15 points, with Hill shooting 6 of 7 from the floor with a pair of threes and 3 blocks while Appleby chipped in 3 triples and a team-high 7 assists. Seth Miliner added 13 points with 3 threes while Kasheem Thomas and Stefan Kenic each chipped in 11 to finish off the double-digit scoring for Cleveland State in the loss. Thomas shot 4 of 5 with a pair of threes while Kenic added a Vikings-high 8 rebounds in the losing effort. Appleby leads Cleveland State with an average of 14.1 points and 4.6 assists per game while Hill leads the Vikings in rebounding with 5.9 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Cleveland State is averaging 74.2 points per game on 42.9% shooting from the floor, 36.8% from behind the 3-point line and 64.7% from the foul line this season.
The Toledo Rockets will look for another win to add to their current 4-game winning streak, leaving the Rockets at 6-1 following an 80-59 win over North Alabama in their last outing. Luke Knapke added 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting with 6 boards and 4 assists while Nate Navigato came right behind with 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting with 5 threes and a team-high 6 assists. Jaelan Sanford added 13 points with 3 threes and 6 assists while Willie Jackson added 11 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double to round out the scoring in double figures for the Rockets in the victory. Marreon Jackson also added a team-high 7 assists for Toledo in the victory. Sanford leads the Rockets in scoring with 18 points per game while Jackson leads Toledo in assists with 5.4 assists per game and Jackson leads the Rockets on the glass with 9.4 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Toledo is averaging 82 points per game on 49.3% shooting from the field, 43.4% from behind the 3-point line and 78.8% from the foul line this season.
Cleveland State is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games overall while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games following a loss. Toledo is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 2-11 ATS in their last 13 home games against a team with a losing road record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall.
There’s no denying that the Rockets are the team in much better form coming into this game, but something seems off about laying this many points with Toledo. Cleveland State, despite their record, has actually been pretty good ATS dating back to last season, away from home as well. Toledo tends to play down to their competition and let the opposition hang around and in most cases, sneak in the backdoor to bag a cover. I think that happens again here as Cleveland State does just enough to keep this one within the number, so I’ll take the Vikings and the points here.
