Northern Illinois overmatched Ohio on both ends of the court and had little trouble securing the victory after taking a 44-28 halftime lead. Northern Illinois shot 56.1% from the field and 56.3% from beyond the arc while holding Ohio to just 38.9% shooting from the field. Defensively, Northern Illinois is allowing their opponents to average 70.8 ppg on 43.2% shooting from the field. The Huskies have a rebound margin of 1.2 and a turnover margin of 1.0.
The Toledo Rockets had one of there best seasons on record as Toledo finished this season with an overall record of 25-6 while earned the 2-seed in the MAC Men’s Championship with a conference record of 13-5. Toledo posted a solid 12-1 non-conference record with an impressive win over UC-Irvine and although they were 0-2 against Buffalo in conference play, the Rockets were impressive on both end the court throughout the season. Toledo comes into this post-season play on a 5-game winning streak and currently rank 65th in scoring offense, 75th in scoring defense, and 31st in defensive FG%.
On the season, Toledo is averaging 77.3 ppg on 45.4% shooting from the field. The Rockets are averaging 9.7 three-pointers per game on 37.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Toledo has been led by Jaelan Sanford (15.4 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.1 apg), Nate Navigato (12.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.7 apg), Marreon Jackson (11.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 4.3 apg, 1.5 spg), and Luke Knapke (10.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.4 bpg).
Defensively, Toledo is holding their opponents to an average of 67.7 ppg on 40.7% shooting from the field. The Rockets have a rebound margin of 4.7 and a turnover margin of -1.0.
Toledo won both of their regular season match-ups agianst Northern Illinois as the Rockets won by a 69-55 margin at Northern Illinois in early February while defeating the Huskies by a 57-54 margin in late February.
The Huskies are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Thursday games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record. The Rockets are 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 games following a straight up win, however, are just 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss.
Toledo had had a great season, however, facing off against Northern Illinois is a tough match-up as although the Huskies have been inconsistent this season, they do have the talent to beat anyone in the MAC as they showed with their 77-75 victory agianst Buffalo. Northern Illinois is a balanced team and although their offense hasn’t had much success agianst the Rockets in the regular season, I think the Huskies will be able to keep this one close, similar to their last match-up at Toledo, and cover with the points. Good Luck!
