The Troy Trojans host the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in a Sun Belt college basketball opener.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers enter conference play off of a 73-71 defeat at Charleston as a 12 point underdog. Coastal Carolina won the shooting battle 51.8%-43.8%bbut the Cougars totaled nine more shots and sank eight more free throws.
Zac Cuthbertson led a balanced Chanticleers offense with 19 points, eleven rebounds and five helpers on 7-17 from the floor and 4-4 at the stripe followed by a 16 point effort by Trevion Brown om 6-8 marksmanship including 4-5 from distance.
Coastal Carolina received 13 points, seven boards and five helpers from Ajay Sanders while David Kralj tossed in ten points.
The Troy Trojans open Sun Belt play with the momentum four game winning streak after downing Arkansas-Pine Bluff 71-63 as a 14.5 point home favorite. This was a tie game at the intermission with Troy pulling away late with a 15-9 advantage at the stripe being the deciding factor.
Alex Hicks topped a balanced Trojans offense with 18 points and ten rebounds on 8-12 marksmanship followed by a 15 point, three pull effort from Jordan Varnado on 6-13 from the field.
BJ Miller gave Troy 14 points, three yanks and five assists on 4-5 accuracy and 5-6 at the line while Charles Norman added another 14 points and four pulls on 4-5 from beyond the arc.
