The Florida International Golden Panthers kicked off their conference schedule with an 83-76 win at Middle Tennessee as a three point road favorite on Thursday.
Florida International held a 45.6%-42.2% shooting advantage including a 12-6 edge from beyond the arc.
Brian Beard Jr. carried the Golden Panthers with a contest high 28 points and seven helpers followed by a 20 point, seven rebound effort from Trejon Jacob.
FIU received 12 points from Devon Andrews followed by Antonio Daye Jr. with eleven points, three assists and two steals.
The Alabama-Birmingham Blazers knocked off visiting Florida Atlantic 67-50 as an eight point favorite on Thursday. UAB shot the ball well at 47.5% but it was their defense that stood out with the Owls limited to 33.9% shooting.
Jeremiah Bell topped a balanced Blazers offense with 14 points, five boards and five helpers followed by Makhtar Gueye with 12 points and six rebounds.
Alabama-Birmingham saw eleven points, seven rebounds and four assists from Zack Bryant while Lewis Sullivan added ten points and three yanks.
