Old Dominion Monarchs -1.5 -- O/U: 127
The Old Dominion Monarchs and the UAB Blazers meet in C-USA college basketball action from the Bartow Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Old Dominion Monarchs will look to finish the season strong atop the C-USA mountain after falling in their last outing by a final score of 59-52. Justice Kithcart and Xavier Green each had 11 points to lead the Monarchs with Kithcart shooting 4 of 7 with 3 threes in just 18 minutes while Ahmad Caver added 10 points with team-highs of 8 rebounds and 5 assists to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for ODU in the loss. Aaron Carver had 7 rebounds while B.J. Stith added 6 points on just 2 of 13 shooting. Despite the off night, Stith still leads Old Dominion with an average of 17.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while Caver leads the Monarchs in assists with 5.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Old Dominion is averaging 67.4 points per game on 41.6% shooting from the field, 35.7% from behind the arc and 65.4% from the foul line this season. Old Dominion is also one of the best teams defensively in the nation, sitting 8th in scoring defense and field goal percentage against, allowing just 61.1 points per game on 38.8% shooting from the field this season.
The UAB Blazers will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 76-70 loss to UTSA in their last outing. Lewis Sullivan led the Blazers with 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting with a team-high 9 rebounds and a pair of steals while Zack Bryant added 15 points with 3 threes, 4 assists and a pair of steals. Makhtar Gueye and Jalen Perry each had 11 points with a pair of threes to round out the group of double-digit scorers for UAB in the loss, with Gueye adding 8 rebounds as well. Bryant leads UAB with an average of 14.6 points and 4.1 assists per game while Sullivan leads the Blazers on the glass with 6.8 rebounds per game this season. As a team, UAB is averaging 70.5 points per game on 45.4% shooting from the field, 33.8% from behind the arc and 66.5% from the foul line this season.
Old Dominion is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 road games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 conference games. UAB is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a loss while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 Saturday games. Old Dominion is 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
UAB at home as an underdog is tempting considering how the Monarchs have struggled in this matchup and are coming off of a performance against Southern Miss where the offense was non-existent. However, even with Old Dominion’s struggles ATS both overall and on the road, the Blazers haven’t been playing well enough at home ATS to give home court value here, and the fact is that the Monarchs are still the best team in C-USA this season. This isn’t a game I’d play personally, but if forced to pick, I’d side with Old Dominion and the low line in this one.
