We have some C-USA action on the college basketball schedule on Saturday night when the Rice Owls take on the UAB Blazers.
The Rice Owls could use a win here after losing 3 straight and 6 of their last 7 games following a 94-75 loss to Middle Tennessee in their last outing. Connor Cashaw led the Owls with 18 points on 5 of 12 shooting with 4 threes and 8 rebounds, while Najja Hunter came 2nd with 13 points and Ako Adams added 12 points. Malik Osborne chipped in 11 points to round out the quartet of double digit scorers for Rice in the losing effort. Cashaw leads Rice with an average of 16 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while Adams leads the Owls in assists with 3.2 helpers per game this season. As a team, Rice is scoring 68 points per game on 41.3% shooting from the field, 32.3% from behind the arc and 67.7% from the foul line this season.
The UAB Blazers will look to turn things around after consecutive losses and defeats in 5 of their last 7 games following a 67-60 loss to North Texas in their last outing. Chris Cokley and Zack Bryant tied for the team-high with 12 points apiece, with Cokley adding 7 rebounds while Bryant dished out 4 assists while adding 3 steals. William Lee and Jalen Perry each added 11 points to finish off the double digit scoring for UAB in the loss, with Lee adding 13 rebounds and 4 blocks for the double-double. Cokley leads UAB with an average of 18.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while Nick Norton leads the Blazers in assists with 4.6 assists per game this season. As a team, UAB is scoring 77.2 points per game on 48.9% shooting from the field, 33.8% from behind the arc and 74.7% from the foul line this season.
Rice is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a loss while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. UAB is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the under is 15-4-2 in their last 21 conference matchups. Rice is 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at UAB.
Rice has had their fair share of struggled as of late, but I don’t think that UAB is this much better than the Owls. Sure, UAB is at home where they’re 11-3 SU this season, but the Blazers are below .500 ATS on their home floor. Rice actually has a better road winning percentage ATS than the Blazers do at home, and the Owls have come close against some decent competition and got blown out by Middle Tennessee, a team by all intents and purposes they should get beat by. All in all I think this is just a case of too many points and I’ll take them with Rice here.
