The Alabama-Birmingham Blazers welcome the Texas El Paso Miners to town for a CUSA college basketball matchup.

The UTEP Miners picked up their first conference win in a 65-64 decision versus visiting Rice on Saturday as a 5.5 point favorite.

Texas El Paso was down five points at the halfway point before a late second half rally behind a 44.6%-36.7% edge in marksmanship.

The Miners saw Nigel Hawkins explode for a contest high 24 points and seven rebounds while Jordan Lathon added 17 points, seven boards and five helpers.

UTEP received 12 points and four pulls from Evan Gilyard with Efe Odigie rounding out the top contributors with six points and nine rebounds.

The Alabama-Birmingham Blazers fell to 2-2 in the CUSA following a 73-68 defeat at Southern Miss on Saturday as a 3.5 point underdog.

Both teams sank shots in the 42% range with Alabama-Birmingham coming up short at the stripe where Southern Miss held a 16-6 advantage.

Lewis Sullivan was the Blazers top weapon with 14 points and nine rebounds followed by Jalen Perry with 12 points and six boards.

Mahtar Gueye gave UAB another 12 points and four pulls while Zack Bryant and Jeremiah Bell combined for 17 points, six boards and ten assists.

Under is 19-7 in UTEP last 26 overall and UTEP are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games. Under is 18-7-1 in UAB last 26 Thursday games and under is 20-9-2 in UAB last 31 vs. Conference USA. Underdog is 12-1 ATS in the last 13 meetings and road team is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

I don’t think UTEP wins and they look like a middle of the row CUSA squad but that’s a cover in my view…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
