Thursday night college basketball features a Big West bout between the Hawaii Warriors and the UC Irvine Anteaters.

The Hawaii Warriors looked like a challenger in the Big West several weeks ago but fast forward to the present and the tea has lost five in a row after a 77-71 defeat to CS Northridge. Hawaii shot the ball well at 51.1% but that fell short of the Matadors 65.1% accuracy.

The Warriors received 17 points from Drew Buggs on 5-7 from the floor including 3-3 from long range. Michael Thomas gave Hawaii 14 points and five pulls on 4-7 shooting while Brocke Stepteau and Gibson Johnson combined for 18 points.

The UC Irvine Anteaters have ripped off five straight victories and their reward is second in the Big West. UC Irvine comes in off of a 62-52 victory at UC Riverside  where the team struggled to find their shot at 35.7% which was still a winning effort with the Highlanders held to 31.5%.

Evan Leonard was the top offensive weapon for the Anteaters with a contest high 18 points and five steals on 6-12 from the floor including 4-9 from distance. Tommy Rutherford gave UC Irvine 15 points and seven rebounds while Eyassu Worku netted ten points.

Hawaii are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games and Hawaii  are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and Hawaii are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Big West. UC Irvine  are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall and UC Irvine are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. Big West. Favorite is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings and Hawaii are 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings.

I believe UC Irvine is flying under the radar a bit and could easily win the Big West…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
