The Cal State Northridge Matadors open Big West college basketball action at the UC Riverside Highlanders.

The Cal State Northridge Matadors enter conference play off of a 94-90 OT loss to visiting Yale as an eight point underdog. Cal State Northridge was outshot 50%-39% but totaled nine more shots along with a few more makes at the stripe.

Lamine Diane was the main weapon for the Matadors pouring in a contest high 35 points with 15 rebounds, four steals and four blocks.

Terrell Gomez and Rodney Henderson Jr. gave Northridge 23 points apiece to give the offense plenty of explosiveness but the rest of the team accounted for only nine points.

The UC Riverside Highlanders tuned up for conference play with a 112-47 rout of sub-division Bethesda University. UC Riverside was never challenged with 52.9% marksmanship and 35 more shot attempts.

Zac Watson led the Highlanders with 25 points and nine rebounds with Ajani Kennedy adding 18 points and  another eleven rebounds. 

Riverside  received 17 points, eight boards and nine helpers from Jordan Gilliam followed by 16 point, 13 rebound effort by Menno Dijkstra.

Over is 15-5-1 in CSU Northridge last 21 overall and over is 7-3-1 in CSU Northridge last 11 road games and CSU Northridge are 16-35 ATS in their last 51 Wednesday games. Under is 6-2-1 in UC Riverside last 9 vs. Big West and under is 34-12-1 in UC Riverside last 47 Wednesday games and under is 24-11-1 in UC Riverside last 36 overall. Road team is 16-5 ATS in the last 21 meetings.

Both teams have a few quality performances but I’ll take the basket in a toss up…
