The Hawaii Warriors and the UC-Riverside Highlanders meet in Big West conference college basketball action from the SRC Arena on Thursday night.

The Hawaii Warriors will try to start the climb out of the logjam in the middle of the Big West after a 4th straight loss to fall to 5-5 in conference play after a 70-63 loss to UC-Irvine last time out. Eddie Stansberry leads the Warriors in scoring with 16 PPG while Samuta Avea is 2nd in scoring with 10.7 PPG. Drew Buggs is averaging 9.7 PPG and a team-high 6 APG while Zigmars Raimo is averaging 9.4 PPG and a team-high 7.2 RPG this season. As a team, Hawaii is averaging 70 points on 43.5% shooting from the field, 33.5% from 3-point range and 69.3% from the foul line while allowing 68.3 points on 44% shooting from the field and 32.9% from 3-point range this season. Hawaii is 1-5 straight up and 2-4 against the spread on the road this season.

The UC-Riverside Highlanders will try to join the fray in the conference standings after a 4th straight loss dropped the Highlanders to 4-7 in conference play this season. Arinze Chidom leads the Highlanders with 11 PPG and 6.8 RPG while Callum McRae has 9.4 PPG and 6 RPG and Khyber Kabellis is averaging a team-high 3.3 APG for UC-Riverside this season. As a team, UC-Riverside is averaging 69.5 points on 44.1% shooting from the field, 35.2% from behind the arc and 69% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 61.7 points on 41.5% shooting from the field and 35.1% from 3-point range this season.

Head-to-head, the road team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.

The points with Hawaii are tempting with how much success the road team has had in this matchup, but the problem is the same problems that teams face when they go on the road and face Hawaii on the island. The time difference can take a toll on you, and the travel just takes a toll on you. I just think that Riverside can use home court to pick up a big win here, so I’ll take UC-Riverside and lay the bucket here.

Chris’s Pick UC-Riverside -2.5
