UCF Knights -18.5 -- Over/Under: 133.5
The East Carolina Pirates and the UCF Knights meet in AAC conference college basketball action from the CFE Federal Credit Union Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The East Carolina Pirates come into this game looking to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 6 games following a 78-72 loss to Memphis in their last outing. Jayden Gardner led the Pirates with 18 points on 7 of 14 shooting along with 8 rebounds while Seth LeDay added 14 points along with 10 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks for the stat-stuffing double-double. Isaac Fleming and K.J. Davis each had 12 points with Fleming adding 7 rebounds and a team-high 7 assists while Davis added 12 rebounds for a double-double of his own. Shawn Williams added 10 points to round out the scoring in double figures for ECU in the losing effort. Gardner leads East Carolina with an average of 18.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while Fleming leads the Pirates in assists with 3.6 assists per game this season. As a team, East Carolina is averaging 70.1 points per game on 43.4% shooting from the field, 27.8% from behind the arc and 68.1% from the foul line this season.
The UCF Knights will look to build on their current 6-game winning streak after a 65-53 win over UConn in their last outing. Aubrey Dawkins led the Knights with 23 points on 9 of 13 shooting with a pair of threes and 4 rebounds while B.J. Taylor added 12 points as the only other UCF player to score in double figures in the win. Dayon Griffin added 9 points with a team-high 4 steals while Terrell Allen added 8 points, 3 steals and a team-high 4 assists. Tacko Fall added a team-high 5 rebounds and a pair of blocks as well in the victory. Taylor leads the Knights in scoring with 17.6 points per game while Fall leads the Knights in rebounding with 7.1 rebounds per game and Allen leads UCF in assists with 4.8 assists per game this season. As a team, UCF is averaging 75.6 points per game on 49.1% shooting from the field, 37.5% from behind the 3-point line and 63.2% from the foul line this season.
East Carolina is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 road games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. UCF is 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall while the over is 11-5 in their last 16 conference games. East Carolina is 2-5 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
East Carolina hasn’t had much luck against the number away from home dating back to last season, failing to cover in 7 of their last 8 road games, and I’m not sure UCF is the best team to go against trying to buck that trend as the Knights are fully capable of scoring and have the size and defensive capabilities to give anyone a hard time trying to score the basketball. However, Laying this many points is asking for a backdoor cover and as a matter of fact, East Carolina, despite being near the bottom of the AAC standings, have really stepped up their play as of late, logging a 2-point win over Cincinnati as a 17.5-point underdog, and owning a lead for a good chunk of the game against Memphis before letting it slip away late. I think the Pirates are capable of putting on another solid performance and can keep this score reasonable, so I’ll take East Carolina and the points in this one.
