The SMU Mustangs and the UCF Knights meet in AAC college basketball action from the CFE Federal Credit Union Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The SMU Mustangs will look to build some steam after snapping a 5-game losing streak with a 77-59 win over UConn last time out. Jahmal McMurray led the Mustangs with 25 points on 10 of 14 shooting with 3 threes and 3 assists while Isiaha Mike and Ethan Chargois each had 14 points with a pair of threes and a team-high 8 rebounds with Mike adding 3 blocks and a pair of steals while Chargois chipped in a pair of rejections. Feron Hunt added 11 points on 5 of 6 shooting with 6 rebounds to round out the group of double-digit scorers for SMU in the win. Jimmy Whitt Jr. added 8 points with 6 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists as well in the victory for the Mustangs. McMurray leads SMU in scoring with 18 points per game while Whitt Jr. leads the Mustangs in assists with 4.4 assists per game and Chargois leads SMU on the glass with 6.8 rebounds per game this season. As a team, SMU is averaging 73.9 points per game on 44.7% shooting from the field, 34.6% from behind the 3-point line and 72.1% from the foul line this season.
The UCF Knights will look to rebound after a 60-55 loss to Cincinnati in their last outing. Aubrey Dawkins led the Knights with 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting with 4 threes while B.J. Taylor added 12 points with 3 assists as the only other UCF player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Terrell Allen dished out a team-high 5 assists while Tacko Fall has 7 points along with a whopping 5 blocks and Collin Smith matched his 5 points with a team-high 5 rebounds in the loss. Taylor leads UCF in scoring with 16.7 points per game while Fall leads the Knights in rebounding with 6.8 rebounds per game and Allen leads UCF in assists with 4 assists per game this season. As a team, UCF is averaging 72.9 points per game on 46.8% shooting from the field, 35.3% from behind the arc and 63.6% from the foul line this season.
SMU is 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games following a win. UCF is 24-11-1 ATS in their last 36 home games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall while the over is 4-1-1 in their last 6 conference games. SMU is 2-5-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
SMU put out a solid win over UConn in their last outing, but the fact here is that while the Mustangs have played some close games lately, UCF is still the better team and have been tough to cover against, let alone beat, on their home floor. I just trust UCF at home more than I do SMU on the road, or in general for that matter, so I’ll lay the points with UCF at home in this one.
