The UCF Knights and the VCU Rams will meet up on the college basketball court in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament Friday.

UCF is sitting at 23-8 on the year overall. The Knights have dropped two consecutive games, falling to Temple in their final regular-season outing and Memphis in the AAC tourney.

In the loss to the Tigers, UCF’s only scorer in double-figures was Tacko Fall with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Collin Smith and Dayon Griffin each added nine points for the Knights in the losing effort as well.

Over on the VCU side, they’re 25-7 this season. The Rams had a nice win streak going into the Atlantic 10 Tournament, but were upset by a plucky Rhode Island team 75-70 for the early exit.

In the loss to Rhode Island, VCU’s Marcus Santos-Silva put up a superhuman 26 points and 22 rebounds. The only other VCU player in double-figures there was De’Riante Jenkins with 13 points, five assists and four rebounds.

The Knights are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 overall and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 non-conference games. UCF is 15-6 ATS in their last 21 Friday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven neutral-site games.

Meanwhile, the Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last five following a straight-up loss and 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight Friday games. VCU is 15-4 ATS in their last 19 NCAA Tournament games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss.

It’s been a while since the Knights have seen the right side of 70 points—February 27 to be exact. That means if UCF has their way, this matchup is bound to be a plodding 60-something to 60-something coin flip.

That said, VCU has been putting up some respectable points totals lately, and if their offense gets going the Rams could make a statement here. I’m going to forget about the Rhode Island debacle, go with VCU and maybe even the over.
