The Line: Connecticut Huskies -13 -- Over/Under: 128
We have some AAC conference action on the hardwood as the South Florida Bulls take on the UCONN Huskies in a college basketball matchup on Wednesday night.
The South Florida Bulls will look to rebound after losing 3 straight and 10 of their last 11 games following a 63-54 loss to Tulsa in their last outing. Stephen Jiggets led South Florida with 22 points on 6 of 13 shooting with 4 threes and a team-high 7 rebounds while David Collins added 11 points with 3 steals as the only other Bull to score in double figures in the loss. Payton Banks added 9 points on 3 tripled with a share of the team-high with 4 assists as Terrence Samuel added 4 assists of his own in the losing effort for USF. Jiggets leads South Florida with an average of 12.4 points and 3.3 assists per game, while Malik Martin is the Bulls’ top rebounder with 4.6 boards per game this season. As a team, South Florida is scoring 62.6 points per game on 41.2% shooting from the field, 36.1% from behind the arc and 72% from the foul line this season.
The UCONN Huskies will also be looking to snap a 3 game losing skid after losing 5 of their last 6 games with a 65-57 loss to Cincinnati in their last outing. Jalen Adams led the Huskies with 20 points on 7 of 20 shooting with a pair of threes and a team-high 4 assists while Christian Vital added 18 points with a team-high 9 rebounds as the only other Husky to finish in double digits in scoring in the loss. Adams leads UCONN in scoring with 17.6 points and 4.1 assists per game, while Vital leads the way for the Huskies on the glass with 4.9 rebounds per game this season. As a team, UCONN is scoring 66.8 points per game on 40.2% shooting from the field, 31.1% from behind the arc and 76.1% from the foul line this season.
South Florida is 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 games overall. UCONN is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 home games while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall. South Florida is 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I have no doubt that as of right now, USF is the worst team in the AAC. However, UCONN isn’t that far off from the Bulls and have been struggling in their own right. USF may not win this outright, but this is giving UCONN way too much credit simply because they’re facing the cellar dweller in the conference. I’ll take South Florida and the points, but in all honesty there are way better options for your hard earned money on Wednesday night.
