Thursday night college basketball features the UIC Flames hosting the Youngstown State Penguins in a Horizon bout.

The Youngstown State Penguins have had problems getting both ends of the floor on the same page and that’s reflected in their record. Youngstown State has dropped eight of nine following an 83-57 loss to the Wright State Raiders with 30.8% shooting doing the offense in.

The Penguins were shorthanded in the scoring column with just one player cracking double figures. Braun Hartfield was Youngstown State’s best player with 20 points and six boards on 5-12 from the floor and 8-13 at the stripe while Naz Bohannon added nine points and hauled in 13 rebounds.

The surging UIC Flames have won six in a row to sit in third place in the Horizon after downing the Detroit Titans 78-69 as a seven point road favorite. Illinois-Chicago turned up the defensive intensity with the Titans held to 34.8% shooting which made their 45% accuracy a winner.

Dikembe Dixson carried the Flames scoring with 23 points, eight rebounds and four steals on 7-11 from the floor and 8-10 at the line. Tarkus Ferguson gave Illinois-Chicago 15 points and eleven rebounds on 4-11 accuracy with Godwin Boehen chipping in with eight points.

Under is 4-1 in Youngstown State last 5 overall and under is 4-1 in Youngstown State last 5 vs. Horizon League.UIC  are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall and UIC are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 vs. Horizon League.

The Flames are going for the season sweep which can always be tricky but taking the Penguins is akin to guessing for me…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
