Western Carolina was outstanding on the defensive end and pulled away late in the 2nd half after a 7-0 Catamounts run gave Western Carolina a 69-56 lead with just under a minute left in regulation. Western Carolina shot 50.0% from the field while holding VMI to 31.3% from the field and 20.6% (7-34) from beyond the arc. The UNC Greensboro Spartans won their 2nd straight game and improved to 18-6 (9-2 Southern) on the season after defeating the Furman Paladins, 80-67, this past Wednesday. UNC Greensboro shot 53.6% from the field and outrebounded Furman by a 38-17 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Spartans was Demetrius Troy who had 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. The Catamounts are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win. The Spartans are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Western Carolina has been playing some of their best basketball of the season over the past two weeks and have been solid defensively as of late as although the Catamounts rank just 248th in scoring defense, Western Carolina has held their opponents to an average of just 66.4 ppg during their 3-game winning streak. UNC Greensboro has won 7 of their last 8 games and have been great defensively this season as the Spartans currently rank 13th in scoring defense, 82nd defensive FG%, and 19th in rebound margin. UNC Greensboro won by an 11-point margin on the road against the Catamounts earlier in the season as I just don’t see the Western Carolina offense, which ranks just 285th in scoring offense and 322nd in FG%, getting anything going against the Spartans defense, I’m taking UNC Greensboro to cover this large home spread.
