The Wofford Terriers and the UNC-Greensboro Spartans meet in SoCon college basketball action from the Greensboro Coliseum on Wednesday night.
The Wofford Terriers will try to make up ground in the SoCon conference standings despite falling to 8-6 in conference play with a 3rd straight loss coming in the form of an 80-74 loss to Western Carolina last time out. Nathan Hoover leads Wofford in scoring with 15.4 PPG while Storm Murphy is 2nd in scoring and leads in assists with 12.3 PPG and 3 APG this season and Chevez Goodwin is 3rd in scoring and tops in rebounding with 11.7 PPG and 6.3 RPG this season. As a team, Wofford is averaging 73.2 points on 46% shooting from the field, 34.9% from behind the arc and 71.5% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 68.3 points on 44.2% shooting from the field and 33% from 3-point range this season. Wofford is 6-7 straight up and 4-8-1 against the spread on the road this season.
The UNC-Greensboro Spartans will try to join the fray at the top of the SoCon table, sitting at 11-3 after a 4th straight win following a 67-55 win over Mercer last time out. Isaiah Miller leads the Spartans in scoring and assists with 18.1 points and 2.8 assists per game as UNCG’s lone double-digit scorer while Kaleb Hunter has 9.6 PPG and James Dickey has 8.3 PPG and a team-high 9.2 rebounds per game this season. As a team, UNC-Greensboro is averaging 74.5 points per game on 43.5% shooting from the field, 32.2% from behind the arc and 62.3% from the foul line while allowing 60.7 points on 41.3% shooting from the field and 32.8% from 3-point range this season. UNC-Greensboro is 13-3 straight up and 7-6-1 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the home team is 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings between these two teams.
Giving this many points to Wofford can be a dangerous proposition as the Terriers can hang with some of the nation’s best let alone some of the best in the SoCon. However, UNC-Greensboro has just been steamrolling opposing teams left and right as eight of their last 9 wins have come by double-digits, including a 20-point road win at Furman, and double-digit wins home and away against the same Western Carolina team that just took Wofford down. I think the Spartans are my pick out of the SoCon this season, especially with their defense, so I’ll lay the points with UNC-Greensboro in what ends up being another double-digit Spartan victory.
