The Oakland Golden Grizzlies and the UNLV Rebels meet in a college basketball matchup from the Thomas & Mack Center on Friday night.

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies come into this game with a 1-2 record after being taken down by Western Michigan in their last outing by a final score of 85-77. Karmari Newman led the Grizzlies with 18 points on 5 of 12 shooting from behind the arc, while Xavier-Hill Mais added 17 points and Jordan Nobles added 14 points with a share of the team lead with 7 rebounds to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Oakland in the losing effort. Brad Brechting added 7 rebounds while Brailen Neely chipped in 6 points and a team-high 7 assists as well in the loss. Hill-Mais leads Oakland in scoring with 21.3 points per game while Neely leads the Golden Grizzlies in assists with 6.7 assists per game and James Beck is Oakland’s leading rebounder with 6.3 boards per game this season. As a team, Oakland is averaging 87.3 points per game on 46.7% shooting from the field, 38.8% from behind the arc and 66.2% from the foul line this season.

The UNLV Rebels come into this game looking to build on their first win of the season coming in the form of a 72-51 win over UC-Riverside in their last outing. Bryce Hamilton led the Rebels with 16 points coming on a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor with 3 triples while Tervell Beck added 11 points on a perfect 4 of 4 from the floor with a pair of threes as the only other UNLV player to score in double figures in the winning effort. Cheikh Mbacke Diong led the Rebels with 7 rebounds while Amauri Hardy added a team-high 4 assists as well in the winning effort. Shakur Juiston leads the Rebels with an average of 9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while Noah Robotham is UNLV’s top assist man with 3 assists per game this season. As a team, UNLV is averaging 61 points per game on 43.6% shooting from the field, 25.7% from behind the 3-point line and 62.5% from the foul line this season.

Oakland is 8-23 ATS in their last 31 games overall and 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games following a loss while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 road games. UNLV is 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games while the over is 11-4 in their last 15 non-conference games.

Oakland hasn’t been great ATS over the last couple of years and UNLV has the better team in my opinion, but I’m a bit concerned with laying these kinds of points given how UNLV has struggled to put points on the board early on in the season. Oakland has been solid offensively, and should be able to keep this one close so I’ll take the Golden Grizzlies and the points.

Oakland +9
