The San Diego Aztecs and the UNLV Rebels meet in Mountain West college basketball action from the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday night.

The San Diego State Aztecs will look to stay hot after winning 4 straight and 7 of their last 8 games following a 65-57 win over Nevada last time out. Devin Watson and Jeremy Hemsley led the Aztecs with 15 points apiece, with Hemsley adding 6 rebounds while Watson chipped in a team-high 8 assists. Jalen McDaniels added 10 points with 6 rebounds to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for San Diego State in the winning effort. Matt Mitchell added 8 points and a team-high 9 rebounds as well in the victory for the Aztecs. McDaniels leads San Diego State with an average of 16.9 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while Watson leads the Aztecs in assists with 4.6 assists per game this season. As a team, San Diego State is averaging 74.1 points per game on 45.3% shooting from the field, 36.4% from behind the 3-point line and 73.2% from the foul line this season.

The UNLV Rebels will look to build on their own current 3-game winning streak after a 66-56 win over Wyoming last time out. Kris Clyburn led the Rebels with 17 points while Joel Ntambwe chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Amauri Hardy and Noah Robotham each chipped in 10 points to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for UNLV in the win with Robotham adding a team-high 4 assists. Cheikh Mbacke Diong added 8 points with a team-high 11 rebounds and 3 steals as well in the winning effort for the Rebels. Clyburn leads UNLV in scoring with 13.2 points per game while Ntambwe leads the Rebels in rebounding with 5.4 rebounds per game and Robotham leads UNLV in assists with 4.9 assists per game this season. As a team, UNLV is averaging 74.6 points per game on 43% shooting from the field, 33.8% from behind the arc and 68.6% from the foul line this season.

San Diego State is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 17-5 ATS in their last 22 conference games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 conference games. UNLV is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 home games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 10-4 in their last 14 Saturday games. San Diego State is 19-6-2 ATS in the last 27 meetings between these two teams and 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams at UNLV.

Both of these teams come in on their respective winning streaks, so it can come down to splitting hairs when trying to pick a side. However, San Diego State in my opinion has been the more trustworthy team of the two as of late, and the Aztecs have not only been solid in conference play dating back to last season, San Diego State has also gotten the beter of UNLV more often than not in terms of the spread for quite some time now, and in this line of work, that’s all you really care about. I’m a bit shocked that the line is so close to a pick ‘em, but with that said, I’ll lay the point with San Diego State on the road here.
