We have some Mountain West conference college basketball action on Saturday night when the Boise State Broncos take on the Utah State Aggies.
The Boise State Broncos will look to keep their momentum going after winning 4 straight and 7 of their last 8 games following a 73-71 win over New Mexico in their last outing. Christian Sengfelder led the Broncos with 24 points on 8 of 11 shooting with 8 rebounds, while Chandler Hutchison came right behind in 2nd with 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting with 12 rebounds and 4 steals for the double-double as the only other Bronco to score in double figures in the win. Hutchison leads Boise State with an average of 19.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Boise State is scoring 78.9 points per game on 46.9% shooting from the field, 39.4% from behind the arc and 72.7% from the foul line this season.
The Utah State Aggies will be looking to rebound after having their 3 game winning streak snapped with an 83-65 loss to Wyoming in their last outing. DeAngelo Isby led the team with 16 points on 5 of 10 shooting with a pair of triples in just 22 minutes on the floor, while Sam Merrill added 12 points as the only other Aggie to score in double digits in the losing effort for Utah State. Daron Henson added 6 points to match his team-high 6 rebounds, while Koby McEwan dished out a team-high 3 assists with a pair of steals as well in the losing effort. Merrill leads Utah State with an average of 15.5 points and 3.2 assists per game while Dwayne Brown Jr. leads the Aggies in rebounding with 5.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Utah State is scoring 73.6 points per game on 45.5% shooting from the field, 36.6% from behind the arc and 69.5% from the foul line this season.
Boise State is 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a win and 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Utah State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a game where they failed to cover the spread and 2-5 ATS in their last 8 Saturday games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall. The road team is 7-0 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
Utah State has been playing pretty well over the last week and a half and are a solid team at home. However, that hasn’t meant jack when these two meet over the years as the road team’s covered in each of the lat 7 meetings. Also, Boise State comes into this one in much better form and will be playing with some confidence after temporarily sitting at the top of the Mountain West standings. The Broncos have to be careful of a potential look-ahead spot with their next game being for the top seed against Nevada, but I think the line is low enough that you can feel comfortable laying the points with Boise State here.
