The Fresno State Bulldogs and the Utah State Aggies meet in Mountain West conference college basketball action from the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Wednesday night.
The Fresno State Bulldogs will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 78-67 win over Colorado State in their last outing. New Williams added 11 points with 3 threes to round out the scoring in double figures for Fresno State in the winning effort. Braxton Huggins was held to just 6 points but still leads the Bulldogs with an average of 17.8 points per game while Grimes leads Fresno State on the glass with 8.6 rebounds per game and Noah Blackwell leads the Bulldogs in assists with 4.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Fresno State is averaging 79.4 points per game on 46.8% shooting from the field, 37.4% from behind the arc and 74.5% from the free throw line this season.
The Utah State Aggies will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 5 games after a 79-62 win over Air Force last time out. Sam Merrill led the Aggies with 18 points along with a game-high 12 assists for the double-double while Quinn Taylor added 16 points on 7 of 8 shooting with a pair of threes, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Brock Miller added 15 points coming off of 5 triples. Neemias Queta added 13 points on 5 of 5 shooting from the field with 10 rebounds for the double-double that finished off the scoring in double figures for Utah State in the win. The Aggies are also tough on defense, allowing their opposition to shoot just 36.4% from the field this season, the 3rd-lowest field goal percentage against in the country.
Fresno State is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. Utah State is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 conference games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 home games. Fresno State is 2-6-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams at Utah State.
Fresno State has had issues on the road against Utah State in recent years, but this could be a good time for the Bulldogs to exorcise some demons. The Bulldogs have been solid ATS, both overall this year and on the road dating back to last season. Utah State got off to a hot start, but have had consistency issues as of late and you could argue that the Aggies haven’t played to toughest schedule in the world either. I’ll take a shot with Fresno State and the points here.
