The Tulsa Golden Hurricane and the Utah Utes meet in college basketball action from the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane will look to build on a 5-2 start to the year after a 72-58 win over UT-Arlington in their last outing. DaQuan Jeffries led Tulsa with 24 points on 10 of 11 shooting with 4 threes and a pair of steals while Elijah Joiner added 3 threes and 4 steals as part of his 11-point night. Martins Igbanu and Lawson Korita each chipped in 10 points to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for the Golden Hurricane in the win. Jeriah Horne chipped in a team-high 6 rebounds as well in the winning effort. Igbanu leads Tulsa with an average of 13.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while Sterling Taplin leads the Golden Hurricane in assists with 5.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Tulsa is averaging 77.7 points per game on 48.8% shooting from the field, 35.7% from behind the arc and 71.7% from the foul line this season.

The Utah Utes will look to find some measure of consistency after alternating wins and losses in their first 6 games of the season following a 79-57 loss to Northwestern in their last outing. Sedrick Barefield led the Utes as the only player to score in double figures with 15 points on 3 of 4 shooting from behind the arc while Donnie Tillman added 6 points and 7 rebounds. Barefield is Utah’s leader in scoring and assists with 13.5 points and 3.8 assists per game while Tillman leads the Utes on the glass by averaging 7.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Utah is averaging 75.5 points per game on 46.8% shooting from the field, 36.4% from behind the 3-point line and 73.8% from the foul line this season.

Tulsa is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 non-conference games. Utah is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games following a loss.

This will be an interesting test for Tulsa in what will be their first true road game of the year, however I’m still going to side with the Golden Hurricane in this one. Utah hasn’t been very good ATS dating back to last season and have had a hard time taking a step up in competition and covering the number, while Tulsa hasn’t been afraid of going on the road and getting the job done. I’ll side with Tulsa and the points in a game I think the Golden Hurricane have a good chance at winning outright.

Tulsa +7
