The USC Trojans will travel to the Jon M. Huntsman Center to take on the Utah Utes this Thursday night in College Basketball action.

The USC Trojans lost their 2nd consecutive game and dropped to 15-14 (8-8 Pac-12) on the season after being defeated by the UCLA Bruins, 93-88 in OT, this past Thursday. USC fought back from a 62-53 deficit in the 2nd half to force overtime, however, the Trojans offense struggled in the extra period and couldn’t fight back after UCLA took an 87-85 lead with just 3:47 left in OT. USC shot just 39.5% from the field and was outrebounded by the Bruins by a 55-44 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Trojans was Bennie Boatwright who had a double-double with 25 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 block, and a steal.

On the season, USC is averaging 76.7 ppg on 45.8% shooting from the field. The Trojans are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 38.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, USC has been led by Bennie Boatwright (18.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 2.4 apg), Nick Rakocevic (14.8 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.3 bpg), Jonah Mathews (12.6 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.2 spg), and Kevin Porter Jr. (9.2 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.7 apg).

Defensively, USC is allowing their opponents to average 72.6 ppg on 42.0% shooting from the field. The Trojans have a rebound margin of -1.5 and a turnover margin of 1.6.

The Utah Utes dropped to 15-13 (9-7 Pac-12) on the season after being defeated by the Colorado Buffaloes, 71-63, this past Saturday. Utah struggled offensively on the road against the Buffaloes and couldn’t fight back after Colorado took a 59-46 lead with 5:22 left in regulation. Utah shot just 39.3% from the field and 19.2% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Utes was Sedrick Barefield who had 19 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.

On the season, Utah is averaging 75.5 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field. The Utes are averaging 9.6 three-pointers per game on 37.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Utah has been led by Sedrick Barefield (16.8 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.0 spg), Timmy Allen (11.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.3 apg), Donnie Tillman (10.2 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.6 apg), and Parker Van Dyke (8.1 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 1.6 apg).

Defensively, Utah is allowing their opponents to average 74.6 ppg on 45.5% shooting from the field. The Utes have a rebound margin of 3.1 and a turnover margin of -3.5.

The Trojans are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Thursday games, however, just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Utes are 46-20-3 ATS in their last 69 home games vs. a team with a losing road record, however, just 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games.

USC has lost 5 of their last 7 games and although their offense has been solid as they rank 78th in scoring offense, 101st in FG%, and 25th in 3P-FG%, the Trojans have had trouble keeping opponents off the scoreboard as they rank just 212th in scoring defense.

Utah has lost 3 of their last 4 games and come into this game ranked T-106th in scoring offense, 67th in FG%, and 257th in scoring defense.

Utah was able to defeat USC on the road earlier this season in a 77-70 margin, however, I haven’t been that impressed with what I’ve seen from the Utes as of late and it’s also a concerning fact that Utah has lost 3 of their last 4 home games. USC has struggled this season, however, this is an offense that I think will have more success against Utah than what we saw in their first match-up and as I expect this game to be a high scoring, close game, I’m taking USC and the points and probably will put something small on the over. Good Luck!

Pick:
USC Trojans +3
