The Texas El Paso Miners have had a rough time of it of late with losses in five of six after 76-59 loss at Western Kentucky as an eleven point underdog.
UTEP stayed close until the second half where the Hilltoppers went on a 42-28 run with only 36.1% from the floor to lean on.
Nigel Hawkins was the Owls top option with 17 points and five pulls with Evan Gilyard adding 16 points and four boards.
Efe Odigie gave Florida Atlantic eight points and four pulls followed by Kobe Magee who contributed another eight points.
