The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders dropped to 9-20 (6-10 C-USA) on the season after being defeated by the Rice Owls, 67-61, this past Sunday. Middle Tennessee came out flat offensively against the Rice defense and couldn’t fight back after the Blue Raiders went into halftime trailing by a 35-22 margin. Middle Tennessee shot just 40.6% from the field and 6.7% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Blue Raiders was Antonio Green who had 16 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.
On the season, Middle Tennessee is averaging 67.7 ppg on 42.2% shooting from the field. The Blue Raiders are averaging 6.5 three-pointers per game on 32.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Middle Tennessee has been led by Antonio Green (18.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.0 spg), Reggie Scurry (11.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg), Donovan Sims (11.6 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.6 spg), and Karl Gamble (7.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg).

The UTEP Miners lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 8-19 (3-13 C-USA) on the season after being defeated by the Charlotte 49ers, 68-58, this past Sunday. UTEP held a 33-25 lead at halftime, however, struggled on both ends of the court in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after a 16-0 49ers run gave Charlotte a 64-48 lead with 4:38 left in regulation. UTEP shot 45.1% from the field and lost the turnover battle by a 30-27 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Miners was Jordan Lathon who had 25 points, 6 rebounds, and a block.

Defensively, UTEP is allowing their opponents to average 69.8 ppg on 42.4% shooting from the field. The Miners have a rebound margin of 1.4 and a turnover margin of -3.1.
The Blue Raiders are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall, however, are just 5-11 ATS in their last 16 road games. The Miners are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 home games and just 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games overall.
Middle Tennessee has lost 4 of their last 5 games and currently rank just 293rd in scoring offense, 286th in FG%, and 243rd in scoring defense.
UTEP has lost 7 of their last 8 games and although their defense hasn’t been awful as the rank 139th in scoring defense & 95th in defensive FG%, the Miners have had little success on the offensive end as they come into this match-up ranked just 329th in scoring offense & 325th in FG%.
Middle Tennessee is nowhere near the team we saw just a few years upset Michigan State in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament as the Blue Raiders has really struggled on both ends of the court and come into this match-up with just one win away from home on the season (1-11 Away; 0-4 Neutral). UTEP is not a very good team, however, the Miners do have a respectable 8-7 record at home and between the fact that they lost by just a 77-74 margin at Middle Tennessee earlier this season and that I think the Miners defense will give the Blue Raiders some trouble, I’m going to take UTEP to cover this small home spread. Good Luck!
