The Charlotte 49ers and the UTSA Roadrunners meet in C-USA college basketball action from the UTSA Convocation Center on Thursday night.

The Charlotte 49ers come into this game looking for some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 5 games following a 76-70 loss to Old Dominion in their last outing. Jon Davis led the 49ers with 30 points on 8 of 20 shooting with 4 threes and a 10 of 11 mark from the foul line along with a team-high 4 assists. Malik Martin added 12 points with 4 triples and a pair of steals and Milos Supica added 11 points with a team-high 8 rebounds to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Charlotte in the losing effort. Davis leads Charlotte with an average of 21.4 points and 3.7 assists per game while Supica leads the 49ers in rebounding with 5.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Charlotte is averaging 60.4 points per game on 41.5% shooting from the field, 31.9% from behind the arc and 74.4% from the foul line this season.

The UTSA Roadrunners will be looking to rebound from back-to-back losses following an 83-73 loss to UAB in their last outing. Keaton Wallace led the Roadrunners with 33 points on 12 of 26 shooting with 9 threes and 9 rebounds while Jhivvan Jackson added 22 points with 5 threes as the only other UTSA player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Giovanni De Nicolao added 4 points along with a game-high 14 rebounds and 4 assists as well in the defeat. Jackson leads UTSA in scoring with 20.9 points per game while De Nicolao leads the Roadrunners in assists with 3.5 assists per game and Byron Frohnen leads UTSA in rebounding with 7.2 rebounds per game this season. As a team, UTSA is averaging 76.1 points per game on 41.8% shooting from the field, 32.5% from 3-point range and 74.4% from the foul line this season.

Charlotte is 17-36 ATS in their last 53 road games and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games following a loss. UTSA is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 conference games. The road team is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.

The 49ers have had a lot of recent success ATS and the road team has done a good job covering in this matchup, so the points are tempting. But the 49ers are also a liability given their scoring issues as a whole on the year and Charlotte is always a risk of not breaking the 60-point mark on any given night. I also don’t feel comfortable laying near double digits with UTSA after back-to-back losses. Instead, call me crazy, but I’m going to side with the over. The over has hit in each of the 5 meetings between these two teams with an average total of 164.6 points per game in each outing. I think these two teams can at least do enough scoring to get this game into the 140s, so I’ll side with the over here.
