The Valparaiso Crusaders welcome MVC rival the Northern Iowa Panthers to town for Saturday college basketball.

The Northern Iowa Panthers are eyeing a third straight win after knocking off Indiana State 69-64 on Wednesday as a three point home favorite.

This was up for grabs until the final minute with both teams sinking shots in the 40% range with Northern Iowa hitting a few more free throws.

Spencer Halderman helped the Panthers avoid the upset with 21 points and six boards with Wyatt Lohaus tossing in ten points.

UNI received 12 points and eight rebounds from Tywhon Pickford while AJ Green and Trae Berhow combined for 13 points.

The Valparaiso Crusaders suffered their first conference loss in a 71-54 defeat at Loyola-Chicago on Tuesday as an 8.5 point underdog.

Valparaiso managed  only 23  points  in the  first  half before finishing  with  42.5% marksmanship  and  14 turnovers.

Markus Golder was the Crusaders only double digit scorer with 16 points and four pulls with Mileek McMillan netting nine points.

Derrik Smits and Javon Freeman gave Valpo eight points apiece with Freeman grabbing four boards while Daniel Sackey chipped in with seven points.

Northern Iowa Panthers are 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. Missouri Valley and Northern Iowa Panthers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Valparaiso Crusaders are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games and Valparaiso Crusaders are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall.

The Crusaders are the better team but I think Northern Iowa gives them a run for their money…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
