Florida Gators -5 -- O/U: 126
The Florida Gators and the Vanderbilt Commodores meet in SEC college basketball action from the Memorial Gym on Wednesday night.
The Florida Gators will be looking to add to their current 4-game winning streak after picking up a 64-60 win over Missouri in their last outing. KeVaughn Allen led the Gators with 17 points along with a pair of steals while Keyontae Johnson had 13 points with a team-high 7 rebounds and Jalen Hudson added 11 points with 5 rebounds to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Florida in the winning effort. Andrew Nembhard also added 4 points to match his team-high 4 assists as well in the victory. Allen leads Florida in scoring with 13 points per game while Johnson leads the Gators on the glass with 6 rebounds per game and Nembhard leads Florida in assists with 5.3 assists per game this season. As a team, Florida is averaging 68.7 points per game on 42.1% shooting from the field, 33.8% from behind the 3-point line and 71.7% from the foul line this season.
The Vanderbilt Commodores will still be looking for their first conference win of the season to snap an ugly 15-game losing streak after a 68-61 loss to Alabama last time out. Simisola Shittu led the ‘Dores with 16 points on 7 of 13 shooting with a team-high 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the double-double while Aaron Nesmith added 14 points and Yanni Wetzell chipped in 10 points with 8 rebounds to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Vanderbilt in the losing effort. Saben Lee had 6 points to match his team-high 6 assists as well in the loss. Lee leads Vanderbilt with an average of 12.7 points and 3.9 assists per game while Shittu leads the Commodores in rebounding with 6.9 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Vanderbilt is averaging 70.7 points per game on 42.9% shooting from the field, 32.4% from behind the 3-point line and 68.4% from the foul line this season.
Florida is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 conference games. Vanderbilt is 9-23 ATS in their last 32 home games and 19-39 ATS in their last 58 games overall while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games following a loss. Florida is 1-10 ATS in the last 11 meetings between these two teams and 1-5 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams at Vanderbilt while the underdog is 11-0 ATS in the last 11 meetings between these two teams.
Vanderbilt has had issues ATS both overall and at home, but there’s no denying how strongly the trends point in the Commodores’ favor here. Yes, Florida comes into this game in much better form, winning 4 in a row compared to losing 15 straight. But the Gators have had no success when it comes to the number against Vanderbilt and have had little success at the Memorial Gym. The underdog has had a dominant history as well, leading me to the conclusion that the favorite is usually overvalued in this matchup so I’ll take a shot with Vanderbilt and the points in a game that I think Vanderbilt has a chance to actually win outright and snap this losing streak.
