VCU Rams -18 -- O/U: 132.5
The George Washington Colonials and the VCU Rams meet in A-10 college basketball action from the Stuart Siegel Center on Saturday afternoon.
The George Washington Colonials will look to build on a 79-67 win over UMass in their last outing. Maceo Jack led the Colonials with 20 points on 6 of 9 shooting with 3 threes and a team-high 7 rebounds while Armel Potter added 19 points on 7 of 9 shooting with a team-high 4 assists. DJ Williams chipped in 15 points with 6 rebounds while Justin Mazzulla added 12 points to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for George Washington in the winning effort. Williams leads George Washington in scoring with 14.7 points per game while Mazzulla leads the Colonials in assists with 3.5 assists per game this season and Terry Nolan Jr. leads GW in rebounding with 5.2 rebounds per game this season. As a team, George Washington is averaging 64.7 points per game on 41.6% shooting from the field, 31.8% from behind the 3-point line and 67.6% from the foul line this season.
The VCU Rams will look to build on their current 7-game winning streak after a 76-42 win over Rhode Island in their last outing. Marcus Santos-Silva led the Rams with 19 points on 9 of 12 shooting with a team-high 12 rebounds for the double-double while De’Riante Jenkins added 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting with 4 threes as the only other VCU player to score in double figures in the winning effort. Issac Vann and Marcus Evans each added 9 points with Evans also contributing 9 assists and 4 steals. Evans leads VCU with an average of 13.3 points and 3.3 assists per game while Santos-Silva leads the Rams on the glass with 7 rebounds per game this season. As a team, VCU is averaging 71 points per game on 44% shooting from the field, 30.6% from behind the arc and 69.6% from the foul line this season. VCU is also extremely tough on defense, allowing just 61.9 points per game on 38% shooting from the field and 26.4% from 3-point range, the 5th-lowest field goal percentage against and 2nd-lowest 3-point percentage against in the country this season.
George Washington is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 conference games. VCU is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games and 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 conference games. George Washington is just 4-11 ATS in the last 15 meetings between these two teams and 1-6 ATS in the last 7 meetings at VCU.
VCU already owns a 10-point win on the road over George Washington as part of their current winning streak, and while George Washington has been a profitable team to back on the road ATS this season, I just don’t trust the Colonials against a solid defensive team like VCU. The Rams have won each of their last 4 home games by at least 16 points with an average margin of victory of 17.2 points per game during that span so I’ll lay the points with VCU at home here.
