The Virginia Commonwealth Rams welcome the Iona Gaels to town for a non-conference college basketball bout.

The Iona Gaels had no answers at either end of the floor in an 89-65 loss at Ohio on Tuesday. This was just a six point game at the break before Ohio went on a 46-29 second half run behind 47.8% shooting and eight more shots to overshadow the 32.3% accuracy of Iona.

Tajuan Agee was the Gaels top offensive option with 23 points and eight rebounds on 8-14 from the floor including 3-5 on threes. Rickey McGill added 16 points, six boards, five assists and four steals on 4-10 shooting while five others gave Iona 4-6 points.

The VCU Rams need to get back in the win column after a 62-52 loss at Old Dominion on Wednesday has the team losing two of three. Virginia Commonwealth looked to be in control with a 32-20 lead heading to intermission but second half struggles at both ends of the floor over the final 20 minutes decided this. Both squads connected at around 35% but the Monarchs totaled eleven more looks and hit four more free throws.

Marcus Evans was the Rams only double digit scorer with 14 points on 5-13 from the floor while Issac Vann added nine points. Virginia Commonwealth received seven points each from De’Riante Jenkins and Marcus Santos-Silva with the latter hauling in game high nine rebounds followed by a six point, four board effort from Michael Gilmore.

Over is 14-2 in Iona last 16 vs. Atlantic 10 and over is 20-7-1 in Iona last 28 road games. VCU  are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 home games under is 6-1 in VCU last 7 overall and under is 6-1 in VCU last 7 non-conference games.

I’m always leery of backing Iona with their defense so I’m going with the VCU for now…

Pick:
VCU -7

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
