The La Salle Explorers and the VCU Rams will meet up in college basketball action on Wednesday.

The Explorers limp into this game at 3-10 overall. After an ugly streak to start the season, La Salle has won their last three straight games versus Alabama A&M, Towson and UMass.

In the win over the Minutemen, La Salle’s top scorer was Saul Phiri, with 20 points, six rebounds and two assists. The only other Explorers player in double-figures was Pookie Powell with 17 points, three assists and four rebounds.

Over on the Rams side, they’re 10-4 this season. After consecutive losses to Virginia and Charleston, VCU has won their last three as well, over Wichita State, Rider and Fordham.

In the win over Fordham, VCU’s Marcus Evans led the way on 17 points, three assists and one rebound. Also in double-figures for the Rams were Marcus Santos-Silva (13 points; four rebounds) and Sean Mobley (12 points).

La Salle is 9-21-1 ATS in the last 31 overall and 8-20 ATS in their last 28 versus the Atlantic 10. The Explorers are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 Wednesday games and 9-21 ATS in their last 30 after an ATS win.

Meanwhile, the Rams are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine following a straight-up win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall. VCU is 7-19 ATS in their last 26 Wednesday games and the over is 4-1 in their last five versus the Atlantic 10.

After getting wrecked by pretty much everybody in that 10-game losing streak to start the season, La Salle has turned things around with those three wins.

Trouble is, VCU is a lot better than the three teams that the Explorers beat, and I don’t see La Salle lasting too long here. I’m going to stick with the Rams on a cover.

Pick:
VCU Rams -14.5
