The #1 Villanova Wildcats look to avoid the upset bid of the Butler Bulldogs in Big East college basketball action.

The Butler Bulldogs have been playing well with only a 98-93, OT loss versus the #5 Xavier Musketeers preventing a five game winning streak. Butler burned the nets at 53.2% but could not get any stops at the defensive end of the floor with the Musketeers connecting at 59.3%.

The Bulldogs leaned heavily on the production of Kelan Martin and he responded by pouring in a game high 34 points with seven rebounds on 10-19 from the floor followed by Sean McDermott with 17 points on 6-7 accuracy. Butler received 16 points from Kamar Baldwin on 5-13 while Nate Fowler chipped in with ten points on 5-7.

Villanova absorbed just their second loss of 2017-18 in a 79-75 loss to the last place St. John’s Red Storm as a 16 point home favorite. Villanova was outshot 49%-41.8% and their generally dependable perimeter game struggled to an 8-33 mark which negated 12 extra shots.

Jalen Brunson topped the Wildcats scoring with a contest high 28 points on 8-21 from the floor and 10-11 at the stripe. Nova saw Collin Gillespie toss in 12 points on 4-6 from beyond the arc while Mikal Bridges and Omari Spellman netted eleven points apiece with Spellman hauling in 12 rebounds.

Butler are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games and Butler are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games and over is 12-5 in Butler last 17 overall. Under is 7-2 in Villanova last 9 Saturday games and Villanova are 14-6 ATS in their last 20 Saturday games.

Butler has had some success in this matchup so I’m taking the points yet I still feel uneasy…

Pick:
Butler +10.5

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
