Villanova Wildcats -8.5 -- Over/Under: 153
The Creighton Bluejays and the Villanova Wildcats meet in Big East conference college basketball action from the Finneran Pavilion on Wednesday night.
The Creighton Bluejays will look to find some consistency after splitting their last 16 games but made it 3 wins in their last 4 tries following a 76-54 beatdown of Xavier in their last outing. Martin Krampelj led the Bluejays with 23 points on 8 of 11 shooting with a 7 of 7 mark from the foul line and team-highs of 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Marcus Zegarowski added 13 points as the only other Bluejay to score in double figures in the winning effort, while Ty-Shon Alexander was held to just 7 points and a team-high 3 assists. Despite the off night, Alexander still leads Creighton with an average of 17 points per game while Krampelj leads the Bluejays in rebounding with 6.3 rebounds per game and Mitch Ballock leads Creighton in assists with 3.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Creighton is averaging 82.4 points per game while owning the 4th-best field goal and 3-point percentages in D-I, shooting 50.4% from the floor and 41.7% from 3-point range in addition to a 68.1% mark from the foul line this season.
The Villanova Wildcats will look to build on their current winning streak which sits at 10 games following a 77-65 win over Georgetown in their last outing. Collin Gillespie led the Wildcats with 30 points on 7 of 13 shooting with 6 threes, a 10 of 12 mark from the foul line and a team-high 4 assists while Eric Paschall added 24 points and a pair of steals. Phil Booth chipped in 14 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for ‘Nova in the win, while Jermaine Samuels added 3 points, a pair of blocks and a whopping team-high 16 rebounds in the victory. Booth leads the Wildcats with an average of 18.5 points and 4 assists per game while Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree leads Villanova in rebounding with 6.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Villanova is averaging 76.8 points per game on 45.8% shooting from the field, 36.7% from behind the 3-point line and 72.4% from the foul line this season.
Creighton is 6-13 ATS in their last 19 conference games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Villanova is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 conference games and 21-7 ATS in their last 28 home games while the under is 14-6-2 in their last 22 games overall. Creighton is 1-7 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams and 0-5 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at Villanova.
Creighton getting nearly double-digits is extremely tempting considering how well the Bluejays tend to shoot the basketball and how well Creighton looked in stifling Xavier. However, the Bluejays have struggled on the road dating back to last season and the Wildcats have been nothing but money for most of the Big East part of their schedule this season. Villanova is starting to round into the form of a championship contender once again, and given the history of Creighton struggling in this matchup, I think you have to lay the points with Creighton in this spot.
