The Line: Virginia Tech Hokies -30.5 -- Over/Under: 141.5
The VMI Keydets and Virginia Tech Hokies meet Wednesday in college basketball action at the Cassell Coliseum.
The VMI Keydets look for a statement victory after splitting their last eight games. The VMI Keydets are averaging 68.5 points on 38.4 percent shooting and allowing 79.3 points on 46.9 percent shooting. Bubba Parham is averaging 23 points and three assists while Greg Parham is averaging 11 points and 2.2 rebounds. Myles Lewis is grabbing 5.1 rebounds and Garrett Gilkeson is dishing 2.2 assists. The VMI Keydets are shooting 33.5 percent from beyond the arc and 68.9 percent from the free throw line. The VMI Keydets are allowing 30.4 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 27.8 rebounds per game. The VMI Keydets have lost three of their last four road games.
The Virginia Tech Hokies look for another victory to build on their solid 6-1 start to the season. The Virginia Tech Hokies are averaging 81.1 points on 51.5 percent shooting and allowing 58 points on 39.7 percent shooting. Nickeil Alexander-Walker is averaging 17.9 points and 4.1 assists while Ahmed Hill is averaging 14.4 points and 2.9 rebounds. Justin Robinson is the third double-digit scorer and Kerry Blackshear Jr. is grabbing five rebounds. The Virginia Tech Hokies are shooting 44.9 percent from beyond the arc and 67.8 percent from the free throw line. The Virginia Tech Hokies are allowing 33.3 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 28.1 rebounds per game. The Virginia Tech Hokies have won all three home games this season.
The Keydets are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. Atlantic Coast and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games. The Hokies are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games, 31-14-1 ATS in their last 46 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The under is 13-3 in Hokies last 16 overall. The under is 29-12 in Keydets last 41 overall.
The Virginia Tech Hokies are beating the hell out of teams with an offense that's as explosive as it was last year, but a defense that's gotten pretty good. This should be a comfortable victory for the Hokies. However, the VMI Keydets have played Pittsburgh and Kentucky on the road this season, losing by just 10 points to the Wildcats. VMI is battle tested and has a sophomore guard in Parham, who is balling out of his mind right now. I'll take a shot with the points here, as we're getting a boatload.
