The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Virginia Cavaliers will meet up on the college basketball court Saturday.
Notre Dame is sitting at 13-11 overall on the year right now. The Irish are 2-1 in their last three games, with a loss to Miami FL sandwiched between winos over Boston College and Georgia Tech.
In the win over the Yellow Jackets, Notre Dame guard Temple Gibbs led the team on 20 points with five assists and three boards. DJ Harvey added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Irish there, and John Mooney doubled up with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Over on the Cavaliers’ side, they’re 21-2 this season. The Cavaliers suffered a home loss to Duke last Saturday 81-71, but then bounced back with a 69-61 victory over North Carolina on Monday in their last outing.
In the win over the Tar Heels, Virginia’s De’Andre Hunter and Kyle Guy each led the team on 20 points, with a combined three assists and seven rebounds. Ty Jerome doubled up for the Cavs in that one with 15 points and 11 assists as well.
The Irish are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 overall and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 versus the ACC. Notre Dame is 5-17 ATS in their last 17 after an ATS win and 1-5 ATS in their last six Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight Saturday games and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 versus the ACC. Virginia is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games and 37-15-1 ATS in their last 53 overall.
Back on January 12, the Irish were sitting at 11-5, but they’ve hit the skids against the tougher ACC competition they’ve had to face. Still, two wins in three games (minus the 47-point dud against Miami) is a good sign.
Virginia destroyed the Irish in their last game 82-55, and though I don’t think there will be quite such a disparity here (the Cavs will probably call off the proverbial dogs early), I still like the home cover in this one. Give me Virginia.
