The Line: Virginia -11.5 -- Over/Under: 128
The Oklahoma Sooners and Virginia Cavaliers meet Sunday in the second round of the college basketball NCAA Tournament at the Colonial Life Arena.
The Oklahoma Sooners look for another victory after smoking the Ole Miss Rebels in round one. The Oklahoma Sooners are averaging 71.9 points on 44.9 percent shooting and allowing 68.3 points on 40.4 percent shooting. Christian James is averaging 14.4 points and 1.8 assists while Brady Manek is averaging 12 points and 6.1 rebounds. Kristian Doolittle is the third double-digit scorer and Aaron Calixte is grabbing 1.8 rebounds. The Oklahoma Sooners are shooting 34.4 percent from beyond the arc and 69.6 percent from the free throw line. The Oklahoma Sooners are allowing 33.4 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 37.4 rebounds per game. The Oklahoma Sooners have lost five of their last seven non-home games.
The Virginia Cavaliers look for a trip to the Sweet 16 after escaping an upset at the hands of Gardner-Webb on Friday. The Virginia Cavaliers are averaging 71.8 points on 47.8 percent shooting and allowing 55.1 points on 38 percent shooting. Kyle Guy is averaging 15.6 points and 4.4 rebounds while De'Andre Hunter is averaging 15.1 points and 2.1 assists. Ty Jerome is the third double-digit scorer and Braxton Key is grabbing 5.5 rebounds. The Virginia Cavaliers are shooting 40.9 percent from beyond the arc and 74.6 percent from the free throw line. The Virginia Cavaliers are allowing 27.2 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 34.8 rebounds per game. The Virginia Cavaliers have won eight of their last nine non-home games.
The Sooners are 14-3-1 ATS in their last 18 non-conference games, 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Sunday games and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 NCAA Tournament games. The Cavaliers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games, 0-5 ATS in their last 5 NCAA Tournament games and 43-19-1 ATS in their last 63 games overall. The under is 5-1 in Cavaliers last 6 non-conference games. The over is 9-4 in Sooners last 13 neutral site games.
The Oklahoma Sooners beat the snot out of Ole Miss, while Virginia was 20 minutes away from losing to a No. 16 seed for the second year in a row. However, I will suggest not allowing either game to cloud your judgement. Oklahoma isn't as good as it showed in the first round, Ole Miss is just god awful defensively. Virginia also showed in the second half how explosive it can be when it's dialed in and playing ever possession. Oklahoma finished the regular season scoring under 70 points in five of its last eight games, and none of those teams in the Big 12 are as effective defensively as Virginia. The chalk isa bit steep and there will probably be better betting options on Sunday, but I'll side with the Cavs in a comfortable win. I'm just not sold on the Oklahoma Sooners.
