The Citadel Bulldogs and the VMI Keydets will match up on the college basketball circuit Saturday.

The Citadel currently sits at 12-16 overall this year. The Bulldogs are just 1-4 in their last five games, taking out Samford and falling to ETSU, WCU, Chattanooga and UNCG during that span.

In the loss to the Spartans, the Citadel’s lead scorer was Connor Kern on 32 points, three rebounds and one assist. Lew Stallworth doubled up on 20 points and 12 assists with five rebounds in that one as well.

Over on the VMI side, they’re 9-20 this year. Following an eight-game losing skid, the Keydets have gotten victories in their last pair of outings versus WCU 83-78 and Mercer 84-71.

In the win over Mercer, VMI’s Bubba Parham led the scoring with 31 points, four assists and three rebounds. Myles Lewis added 17 points and eight rebounds for the Keydets in that one, and Garrett Gilkeson put up 14 points and five rebounds.

The Bulldogs are 15-5-2 ATS in their last 22 after an ATS win and 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 overall. The Citadel are 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 after a straight-up loss and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine Saturday games.

Meanwhile, the Keydets are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Saturday games and 6-18 ATS in their last 24 after an ATS win. The over is 6-0 in the Keydets’ last six versus the Southern and 7-0 in their last seven after an ATS win.

The Citadel hung tough against a good UNCG team, and even had a 50-49 edge going into halftime, but couldn’t close it out and fell 100-96. That makes two straight losses by four points or less.

I expect the Bulldogs to hang around here for a while as well, but with VMI playing pretty good ball over their last couple I’m going to go with the Keydets on a cover.
