The Line: Wake Forest Demon Deacons -6.5 -- Over/Under: 141
We have some ACC college basketball action on tap Wednesday night, as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will look to bounce back after losing 3 straight and 7 of their last 8 games following an 80-69 loss to Duke in their last outing. Josh Okogie led Georgia Tech with 29 points on 7 of 18 shooting with 4 threes and an 11 of 12 mark from the foul line with 6 rebounds and a team-high 4 assists while Evan Cole added 10 points as the only other Yellow Jacket to score in double figures in the losing effort. Ben Lammers added 8 points to match his team-high 8 rebounds, while Jose Alvarado suffered a fractured elbow, which definitely hurts Tech as Alvarado led the team with 12.1 points and 3.1 assists per game this season. Lammers leads the Yellow Jackets on the glass with an average of 8.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Georgia Tech is scoring 65.7 points per game on 42.6% shooting from the field, 32.7% from behind the arc and 71.8% from the foul line this season.
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons could use a win here after losing 3 straight and 12 of their last 14 games following a 78-70 loss to Syracuse in their last outing. Bryant Crawford led Wake Forest with 24 points on 7 of 17 shooting with 4 threes and a team-high 7 assists, while Doral Moore came 2nd with 16 points to match his 16 rebounds for the double-double. Mitchell Wilbekin added 13 points on 4 of 5 shooting while Keyshawn Woods chipped in 12 points to round out the quartet of double digit scorers for Wake in the losing effort. Crawford leads Wake Forest with an average of 16.6 points and 5 assists per game while Moore leads the Demon Deacons on the glass with 9.4 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Wake Forest is scoring 74.2 points per game on 44.5% shooting from the field, 38.7% from behind the arc and 73.7% from the foul line this season.
Georgia Tech is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record. Wake Forest is 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 conference matchups. The home team is 12-4 ATS in the last 16 meetings between these two teams.
Neither of these two are teams you would want to get behind in their current form. However, I think the loss of Alvarado will hurt the Yellow Jackets over the next couple of games as Georgia Tech has to get used to life without him this season, while Wake Forest actually gave Syracuse a scare before letting it get away late. All in all, I think this is Wake Forest’s game to lose, so I’ll lay the points with the Demon Deacons here.
