The Syracuse Orange will travel to Lawrence Joel Coliseum to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.

The Syracuse Orange lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 18-10 (9-6 ACC) on the season after being defeated by the 5th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels, 93-85, this past Tuesday. Syracuse led by a 46-43 lead at halftime, however, struggled defensively in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after North Carolina took an 83-73 lead with 4:32 left in regulation. Syracuse shot 48.3% from the field, however, was outrebounded by the Tar Heels by a 46-25 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Orange was Tyus Battle who had 29 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

On the season, Syracuse is averaging 70.3 ppg on 42.2% shooting from the field. The Orange are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 32.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Syracuse has been led by Tyus Battle (17.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.1 spg), Elijah Hughes (13.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.2 spg), Oshae Brissett (12.9 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.0 spg), and Frank Howard (8.2 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.5 spg).

Defensively, Syracuse is holding their opponents to an average of 65.2 ppg on 39.4% shooting from the field. The Orange have a rebound margin of -1.7 and a turnover margin of 3.5.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons improved to 11-16 (4-1 ACC) on the season after defeating the Miami Hurricanes, 76-75, this past Tuesday. Wake Forest trailed by a 56-42 margin midway through the 2nd half, however, was solid offensively down the stretch and took the lead for good after Brandon Childress hit a three-pointer with just :26 seconds left in regulation. Wake Forest held Miami to 37.0% shooting from the field and outrebounded the Hurricanes by a 41-34 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Demon Deacons was Chaundee Brown who had a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

On the season, Wake Forest is averaging 69.1 ppg on 39.8% shooting from the field. The Demon Deacons are averaging 6.4 three-pointers per game on 30.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Wake Forest has been led by Brandon Childress (15.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.6 spg), Jaylen Hoard (13.8 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 1.6 apg), Chaundee Brown (11.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.3 apg), and Olivier Sarr (6.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.0 bpg).

Defensively, Wake Forest is allowing their opponents to average 75.9 ppg on 46.3% shooting from the field. The Demon Deacons have a rebound margin of 3.7 and a turnover margin of -2.4.

The Orange are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up loss and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games. The Demon Deacons are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 2-14 ATS in their last 16 Saturday games.

Syracuse has lost 4 of their last 6 games and although their defense has been solid, ranking 37th in scoring defense & 14th in defensive FG%, the Orange have struggled offensively as they come into this match-up ranked just 248th in scoring offense & 287th in FG%.

Wake Forest has split their last 6 games and currently rank 274th in scoring offense, 281st in scoring defense, and 302nd in defensive FG%.

There is no denying that Syracuse is the better team in this match-up, however, I haven’t been overly impressed with the Orange on the road this season (5-3 Away; 0-2 Neutral Court) and it’s going to be important for the Orange not to overlook the Demon Deacons who are 8-6 at home including a solid win over NC State. Wake Forest should have the advantage on the boards in this one and I’m banking on the Demon Deacons to do just enough to cover with the points. Good Luck!
