The Baylor Bears will travel to WVU Coliseum to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers this Monday Night in College Basketball action.

The Baylor Bears won their 2nd straight game and improved to 3-2 (11-6 Big 12) on the season after upsetting the 8th ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders, 73-62, this past Saturday. Baylor’s offense was outstanding agianst the tough Red Raiders defense and was able to hang on late for the victory after taking a 55-42 lead with 8:13 left in regulation. Baylor shot 41.4% from the field and 37.9% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Bears was Jared Butler who had 19 points, 5 assists, 1 rebound, and 3 steals.

On the season, Baylor is averaging 71.4 ppg on 43.8% shooting from the field. The Bears are averaging 7.4 three-pointers per game on 31.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Baylor has been led by Makai Mason (14.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.8 apg), Tristan Clark (14.6 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.1 spg, 2.4 bpg), King McClure (10.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.7 spg), and Jared Butler (8.2 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.0 spg).

Defensively, Baylor is holding their opponents to average 63.8 ppg on 41.2% shooting from the field. The Bears have a rebound margin of 6.4 and a turnover margin of 0.5.

The West Virginia Mountaineers snapped their 5-game losing streak and improved to 9-9 (1-5 Big 12) on the season after upsetting the 7th ranked Kansas Jayhawks, 65-64, this past Saturday. West Virginia trailed by a 64-58 margin with just 2:38 left in regulation, however, was outstanding defensively down the stretch and was able to pull off the shocking victory after closing out the game on a 7-0 run. West Virginia shot 46.3% from the field and forced Kansas into committing 18 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Mountaineers was Jermaine Haley who had 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.

On the season, West Virginia is averaging 74.6 ppg on 42.2% shooting from the field. The Mountaineers are averaging 7.7 three-pointers per game on 32.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, West Virginia has been led by Sagaba Konate (13.6 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 1.4 apg), Esa Ahmad (12.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.8 apg), James Bolden (12.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.1 spg), and Derek Culver (11.9 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 1.3 apg). West Virginia will be without Sagaba Konate who is out indefinitely due to a knee injury.

Defensively, West Virginia is allowing their opponents to average 73.3 ppg on 42.8% shooting from the field. The Mountaineers have a rebound margin of 6.1 and a turnover margin of -2.6.

The Bears are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Monday games. The Mountaineers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record, however, just 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 home games.

Baylor has won 3 of their last 4 games and has been led by their defense that ranks 24th in scoring defense, 76th in defensive FG%, and T-27th in rebound margin. West Virginia comes into this game ranked T-154th in scoring offense, 231st in scoring defense, and 138th in defensive FG%.

West Virginia is a tough place to play and although the Mountaineers just picked up a much-needed conference victory, this team has struggled on the defensive end this season and no longer has the ability to create a bunch of turnovers as they currently rank just 275th in steals per game. Baylor is just 2-2 on the road this season, however, their defense is outstanding and as I think West Virginia is going to struggle on the offensive end against the Bears, I’m taking Baylor in this one. Good Luck!

Baylor Bears +1
