The Line: Western Carolina Catamounts +9.5 -- Over/Under:
Coming up from Ramsey Center on Saturday, the East Tennessee State Buccaneers and the Western Carolina Catamounts will be matching up on the college basketball court.
East Tennessee State comes in here at 22-5 on the year. the Buccaneers had a 16-game win streak going, but lost their last one to UNC Greensboro. In that game, ETSU guard Desonta Bradford put up 21 points.
Bradford leads the Buccaneers in scoring this season on 15.4 PPG with 5.8 RPG and 3.4 APG. Also in the double-digit club for East Tennessee State is Jalan McCloud (12.1 PPG), and Devontavius Payne (9.3 PPG) isn’t far off.
Over on the Western Carolina side, they’re currently 12-15 on the year. The Catamounts have lost their last two games, and fell Thursday to Wofford. In that one, Western Carolina forward Mike Amius put up 20 points.
Amius also leads the way for the Catamounts on the season with 12.7 PPG and 5.8 RPG. The only other Western Carolina player averaging in double-figures this year is Deriece Parks, with 10.4 PPG to his name.
The Buccaneers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS loss and 8-2-2 ATS in their last 12 road games. East Tennessee State is also 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 Saturday games and 15-5-2 ATS in their last 22 overall.
Meanwhile, the Catamounts are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in the last five home games. The over is 5-2 in the Catamounts’ last seven overall and 5-2 in their last seven versus the Southern.
This conference is shaping up to feature a nice run at the top of the standings down the stretch, and we’ve got to rethink things after ETSU lost to UNC Greensboro by 18 points. That said, the last time the Buccaneers met the Catamounts on January 20, ETSU took a 66-50 win. I think that Western Carolina can get a little closer here, so I’ll take the Catamounts to cover.
