Wednesday college basketball features the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars lock horns with the Western Illinois Leathernecks.
The SIU-Edwardsville Cougars broke in to the win column for the first time in 2018-19 with an 80-68 victory versus Incarnate Word on Saturday. SIU-Edwardsville rode a 54 point second half burst behind 49.2% shooting and eleven more shots.
Tyrese Willford topped the Cougars with 20 points, six rebounds and six helpers on 8-15 from the floor including three long balls. David McFarland and Amselm Uzuegbunem tossing in 12 points apiece while Jaylin McCoy and Brandon Jackson gave SIUE another ten points each.
The Western Illinois Leathernecks fell to 2-4 after getting blasted 73-49 by Nebraska on Saturday. Western Illinois faced a 40-17 deficit after 20 minutes and 30.6% accuracy meant no comeback was possible with the Cornhuskers connecting at 46%.
CJ Duff was the lone Leathernecks player to reach double digits in the scoring column with 13 points and three assists on 5-12 from the floor including 3-6 on long balls. WIU received nine points and six rebounds from Isaac Johnson on just 3-12 from the field followed by Brandon Gilbeck with eight points, five boards and three steals on 4-7 shooting.

I get why Western Illinois is the favorite and I understand why the spread is big but it seems SIU-Edwardsville can be competitive…
