The Marshall Thundering Herd and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers meet in C-USA college basketball action from the E.A. Diddle Arena on Monday night.

The Marshall Thundering Herd will look to build on their current 5-game winning streak after a 105-97 win over FIU last time out. C.J. Burks led the Herd with 30 points on 11 of 15 shooting with 4 threes and 4 steals while Jon Elmore came right behind with 29 points along with a team-high 6 assists and 4 steals of his own. Taevion Kinsey added 20 points on 10 of 15 shooting with a team-high 9 rebounds, while Rondale Watson chipped in 13 points and Jarrod West added 12 points with 6 rebounds and a team-high 5 steals to round out the scoring in double figures for the Thundering Herd in the winning effort. Elmore leads Marshall with an average of 20.1 points and 5.3 assists per game while Jannson Williams leads the Thundering Herd on the glass with 4.7 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Marshall is averaging 81.9 points per game on 45.5% shooting from the field, 34.3% from behind the arc and 70.7% from the foul line this season.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers will look for a win to get back above .500 after improving to 9-9 with a 72-66 win over FAU last time out. Taveion Hollingsworth led Western Kentucky with 24 points on 9 of 16 shooting with 3 steals while Josh Anderson added 15 points with 6 rebounds and Lamonte Bearden added 11 points. Charles Bassey contributed 10 points with 11 rebounds and 3 blocks for the double-double to round out the scoring in double figures for WKU in the win while Jared Savage added 8 points and 3 steals of his own. Hollingsworth leads Western Kentucky in scoring with an average of 16.2 points per game while Bassey leads the Hilltoppers in rebounding with 8.9 rebounds per game and Dalano Banton leads Western Kentucky in assists with 3.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Western Kentucky is averaging 72.6 points per game on 46.2% shooting from the field, 35.6% from behind the 3-point line and 72.5% from the foul line this season.

Marshall is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games and 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall while the over is 7-3 in their last 10 games following a win. Western Kentucky is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 Monday games while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 conference games. The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

Marshall has been flat out rolling during this current winning streak that they’re on, including a 1-point win at home against these same Hilltoppers just over a week ago. And while it’s hard to beat the same team twice in such a short span, I think we are getting points with the better team here. So even with their recent struggles on the road, given the fact that the road team has had so much success in this matchup, I’ll take the points with Marshall in a game I see the Thundering Herd winning outright.

Marshall +4.5
