The UTEP Miners and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers will meet up on the college basketball court Saturday.

UTEP comes into this one at 7-13 on the year. The Miners have lost four of their last five games, Taking out Charlotte and falling to UAB, Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion and Marshall during that stretch.

In the loss to the Herd, UTEP’s Nigel Hawkins bagged 22 points, eight rebounds and one assist. Efe Odigie also posted 22 points for the Miners, and supplemented that with an incredible 20 rebounds on the night—more than double any player on either team.

Over on the Western Kentucky side, they’re 12-10 this season. The Hilltoppers have won four of their last five outings, dropping to LA Tech and taking out Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Southern Miss and UTSA in that span.

In the OT win over the Roadrunners, Western Kentucky’s Lamonte Bearden scored 22 points with seven assists and two rebounds. Charles Bassey also bagged 22 points, and had a nice rebound evening himself with 18 total.

UTEP is 4-10 ATS in their last 14 road games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine overall. The Miners are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 versus CUSA and 1-5 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss.

Meanwhile, the Hilltoppers are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games after scoring more than 90 in their previous game, and the under is 6-1 in the last seven overall. The under is 6-1 in WKU’s last seven versus CUSA and 5-2 in their last seven Saturday games.

UTEP has had a pretty rough stretch lately, though the 86 points versus Marshall were a welcome sight after just 48 versus Old Dominion and 57 versus Charlotte (in a 57-53 win). The Miners have been within five points in each of their last three losses.

Western Kentucky had fallen into a scoring slump as well, with no more than 68 scored in a three-game stretch, but came out of it with 96 against UTSA. Still, I think the Miners have the moxie to keep relatively close here, and the line is pretty permissive. I’m going UTEP.
