The Buffalo Bulls and the Western Michigan Broncos meet in college basketball MAC-tion from the University Arena in Read Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.
The Buffalo Bulls will look to build on their current 4-game winning streak after improving to 15-1 on the year after an 88-64 win over Miami-Ohio in their last outing. Jeremy Harris led the Bulls with 17 points on 5 of 11 shooting with 3 threes while Montell McRae added 13 points in just 18 minutes and Nick Perkins chipped in 12 points in just 20 minutes on the floor. Dontay Caruthers added 11 points with 6 rebounds and a team-high 6 assists with 3 steals while CJ Massinburg added 10 points and a team-high 9 rebounds to round out the scoring in double figures for Buffalo in the win. Massinburg leads Buffalo in scoring with 17.2 points per game while Perkins leads the Bulls in rebounding with 8 boards per game and Davonta Jordan leads Buffalo in assists with 3.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Buffalo is averaging 85.4 points per game on 46.5% shooting from the field, 34.8% from behind the 3-point line and 69.8% from the foul line this season.
The Western Michigan Broncos could use a win after losing 3 straight and 6 of their last 7 games following an 85-77 loss to Toledo in their last outing. Michael Flowers led the Broncos with 21 points along with 7 rebounds and a team-high 7 assists while Seth Dugan chipped in 16 points and 12 rebounds with 4 assists for the double-double. Jared Printy chipped in 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting with a pair of threes while Josh Davis added 13 points with 7 rebounds and a pair of steals to finish off the group of double-digit scorers for Western Michigan in the loss. Flowers leads Western Michigan with an average of 16.6 points and 3.9 assists per game while Dugan leads the Broncos in rebounding with 8.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Western Michigan is averaging 72.5 points per game on 43.2% shooting from the field, 33.2% from behind the 3-point line and 70% from the foul line this season.
Buffalo is 16-4-1 ATS in their last 21 games overall and 18-7-3 ATS in their last 28 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games. Western Michigan is 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 home games while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record. Buffalo is 1-3-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at Western Michigan.
This is a lot of points to lay on the surface considering that the Bulls have struggled against the Broncos in the past. However, quite simply, the Bulls are the better team here and appear to be the team to beat in the MAC this season, while Western Michigan looks poised to finish in the basement of the conference this season. Outside of the road loss to Marquette, in Buffalo’s 6 road wins and covers this season, 5 of those game have been decided by double-digits, including a 12-point win over Syracuse, so I think the Bulls can add another notch with a win and cover in this one.
